Global Read Aloud

I am so excited about joining the Global Read Aloud this year.  I discovered this event from my Twitter feed this summer and was instantly intrigued by the project.  This global event was started by Pernille Ripp in 2010 with the goal of "one book to connect the world." This year, over 800,000 students have chosen to collaborate with one another as they read the same novel over a six week period of time.  Classes are connecting through Skype, Twitter, WriteAbout, or Edmodo. Check out Ripp's site for more details: Global Read Aloud

This morning my students dug into Orbiting Jupiter,  and are totally hooked by this story of a boy who is desperately searching for his three month old daughter, Jupiter. He has never set eyes on her.  After watching the book trailer, our class tweeted #GRAOJ a prediction of what they expect from the story: discovery, mystery, family, and dealing with crushing loneliness.
We are also collaborating with  Erin Eckholt who created this hyperdoc for the novel: Orbiting Jupiter hyperdoc.

I've been inspired by these ISTE Standards to transform my units/lessons and embrace learning supported by and through digital literacy and technology: SAMR Model  2016 ISTE Standards for Students
